Some Day in January

Ah. This is our thought process. "We have pushed back the official date of our IM training, however, we will not push back the luxuries of massages..."

Exactly. Getting into the IM spirit, TeamDawnKelly took to the streets, briefly with Molly, and then alone to tackle a pre-massage 7.5 mile run. It may have been a tad chilly and mildly slippery, but we pushed through knowing the end result.

60 minutes of "heated" massage time later, we were wobbly standing up and ready for a nap!

Successful adventure. And what we also learned on this trip:
1) our IM cash boxes for Madison/Chicago will accumulate only during our time together training
2) we will stick to 3 hours of Strong Kids spinning instead of 6. No need to start out too strong and embarrass everyone. Ha.

Until next time...

It is really only January 8th? IM WI 2010 - Team DawnKelly

To those who question our attendance of swim clinics, ironman clinics, how to get faster by moving your arm this way clinics, we say...

"We are going to spend the least amount of money possible on people telling us how to get faster." We have 17 hours. We have been slow and steady for 30+ years, no need to start the silly speedwork now.

Kelly and I also participated in our first 2 hour spin of 2010. First words to come out of both of our mouths, kind of in a jinx situation was, "I think I am going to try harder today since I don't have to run 13 miles tomorrow." Did we try harder? I think so.

We also learned at spin class: 1) Dawn can get through IM and a spin class with just 1 functioning pedal - because she is bad-ass. 2) Kelly can successfuly put on a bandana to ward off those tiny little fly-away hairs. 3) Our first massage of the year will be at the end of January (basically because if we do it any earlier, we'll have accomplished nothing so far. 4) We will partake in the Strong Kids 6 hour spin class (again, because we are bad-ass) 5) Our training dollars are set for the cash box: $5 anytime we swim, $.25 a mile for biking, $1.00 a mile for running. Magnificent Mile (or State Street) here we come!

On to our next adventure...

The Official Day 1

OMFG. Today is the day kids. It is now 2010 and in 9 months we could have a baby, or partake in the 2010 IM Wisconsin. I'll take the later.

Kelly, what do we start off doing? I will start with a quick 3 mile run and then a nap. And then think heavily about swimming and biking.

During the next few days, let's get geared up for the January 8th spin class.

We'll remotivated after that? :-)

Cheers to 140.6

IM WI 2010 - Day 100

Who is responsible for the upkeep of this BLOG!!! hahaha!

Since our last post, what has taken place (besides the sheer excitement we exude each day knowing what is looming ahead of us??) Let's see, to celebrate turkey and exercise, Kelly and I RACED the Noodleini 15K on November 29th. We really laced up our shoes and went out for a 9.3 mile trot, plus another 12 minutes, which in our world., is basically 12 miles. Work with us on that one. FYI - Kelly beat me in the Noodleini by a MILI-SECOND. She is always trying to win - so competitive. But our finishline photo was featured on the Midwest Sports Events homepage. We looked fabulous - barf.

A necessity of IM training is a Las Vegas adventure (I was just there in spirit). However, it wasn't the actual Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon that kicked training into high gear, it was the Cher concert that was attended (complete with Cher mints - hopefully those are everlasting - like the Gobstopper.) Congrats Kelly and Sean on the race!

Random indoor exercising has continued but the real celebration comes in the form of Mexican cuisine - most importantly the margaritas, guacamole, christmas presents (that Kelly made me give back to her), after dinner nutty crunchy shot and shots of tequila to make us more sexy and beautiful than we are now. Suckers.

Although, in our true form, we didn't take a picture of the commemorative calendars we have (Robert Pattinson & Audrey Hepburn) to keep track of our IM Training, we did get some activities PENCILED in. Our training is completely flexible - as are we.

We cruised past January, February and March and got into the meat of the training to include a couple 5K's, a sprint triathlon and a handful of Madison course rides. Training complete - bring on the beast.

But, Kelly really took hold of her responsibilities and got a 2 hour spin class scheduled with our spin-master, Don, for January 15th.

Maybe after that date we'll plan some more adventures. Maybe not. We are elite athletes and don't require too much training.

With that, my friends, all I have to say is "Swim Bike Run."

As Dawn recovers from her successful full marathon, we are making plans for the future. TEAMDAWNKELLY followers....we would like to gather at least 112 of you so we can station you at EACH and EVERY mile of the bike course. You will need to provide us with SNACKS , inspiration and defribilators to be used as needed.
It is almost January and the beginning of .....you guessed it....our first massage!

Day 11 - IM WI 2010 - GREAT IDEAS!

Kelly never ceases to amaze me.

A couple great ideas...

1) Make fun IM boxes (complete with stickers, craft night, margaritas and guac) to put in $1 for every training mile. After IM is over, we go shopping in CHICAGO! Wonderful. Looking forward to putting $1's in the IM box.

2) 1 massage a month to reward ourselves of our workout efforts.

When will it be January? So thrilled for these ideas...Keep 'em rollin!

Happy training.

Day 10 - IM WI 2010 - Official Sign Up

Yowsa - it is official - the final step of the "Ironman Sign Up Process" is complete.

Kelly, did you do it as well?

Butterflies and deep breaths.
